Electronic music has always been huge on sampling… from early industrial music sampling dialogue from movies to lend a certain dark gravitas to pretty much everyone sampling George Clinton, it’s pretty much a given. Techno pretty much used both routes, and also seems to go through periodic fads of covering/remaking classic pieces of music.
There are some pretty atrocious ones – a techno version of the Charleston, and the Lone Ranger (the Lone Raver – ugh) theme come to mind. Here’s a few that worked and worked at the time, but didn’t hold up at all…
