In that exact time, and at that exact place in my life, this was not a bad song:

Just… you know, keep in mind that the time was 1991, and the place was my late-teens/early 20’s in suburbia. Today, it’s one of those time-capsule songs from 20 years ago that not only captures the style of dance music at that time, but also makes you ponder what the hell was wrong with you. Because you guys… seriously, I listened to this song so much I might as well have worn grooves in the goddamn CD.

The thing is, this song screams “one trick pony”. Anyone who either listens to it now, or at the time it was released, could tell LA Style was a one-trick pony. It was painfully obvious to everyone that this was their song, their moment, and like an episode of Cash Cab, time to quite while you were ahead.

Well, obvious to everyone, except LA Style, because they decided that totally, you guys, we can TOTALLY make like a FULL ALBUM and IT WILL BE HELLA AWESOME. So that’s just what they did.

And to push their album, their next single was a song extolling the virtues of inhaling nitrous oxide. And I’m sure we’re all surprised that they never became a household name.
