In the early to mid 90’s, techno changed from big goofy cartoony fun to semi-serious “intelligent dance music”. The phrase “consciousness expanding” was tossed around as an excuse for some of the worse pretentious electronic wankery ever. As an experiment, Moby tossed out a track under the pseudonym “Lopez” to see if fun, energetic dance music was really dead.
